Beery Method once again had the honors of developing and producing the visual architecture for Miami’s premier horror rock band The Hoy Polloy and their latest album Dancing With The Panther. It is always a pleasure working with the vortex-mind of front man K Sos and his latest project for The Hoy Polloy. A space influenced rocketype blast of tracks from beginning to end signify the progression and turnkey of concepts thriving through the veins of this four man group. It was a collaboration of design for the production of the new pop neon aesthetics that went into the album cover layout and cd artwork. Here comes The Hoy Polloy Invites You To: Dancing With The Panther.

The Hoy Polloy had broken the album down into chapter like tiles silhouetted by main degrees of iconic interpretation. Thus the cover, somewhat inspired by Michael Jackson’s Dangerous album art created by Mark Ryden needed to include hints of symbolism that interpreted as icons that run throughout the semi-symmetrical layout. Track titles and phrases from the record are interpreted through the characters and symbols embedded in the busy structure of the composition. Being the permanent designer for the majority of K Sos’s projects allowed us to segway bits and pieces of former design elements from past records to give a consistent alignment and key interfacing to his body of work visually.

The green gremlin-like character peeking around the ear of the panther head refers to the first track title of the album Little Vandals. A reference to the following track King is employed to the floating crown above the panther as well as the repeated crown in the mouth of the beast. Other track titles and phrases are given visual representation such as Plastic Hearts with large stylized hearts pumping out diamonds on the side of the cover banner. Puzzle piece towers begin to crumble and fall in sharp blue tones reminiscent of the fourth track Missing Pieces. The cosmic beats make the way in with rocket ships, astronaut kids, and menacing laser shooting robots to the tune of Interstellar. We keyed up the iconography with simple design elements thrown in throughout the concept of the audio tracks and the album cover.

A death head, or skull symbol, puts a gritty taste of death to reflect in the deeper undertones throughout the album. A diamond representing the turn and progression of growth from nothing revered to a shining voice in the Southeast music scene. The lightening bolt represents the intense electric swiftness in the beats and the band’s mission to energize every audience before them. The key is a reference to the unlocking of various chambers of creativity and especially the heart. A super passionate group of musicians have found their voice, a unique sound, and strive to continue to open doors to new levels of success through their musical passion. These elements end up as a pattern along with the Licking Toads icon on the physical CD completing the package as bulletproof, airtight, and solid brand packaging consistency to constituency.

Beery Method also produced the Licking Toads icon aka The Hoy Polloy mascot which refers to the psychoactive bufotoxin poisons found in the skins of rare species of amphibians. Another reference to the psychedelic inferences and effects of the band’s music. We pulled off a beautiful 5 color screen print on super soft 50/50 blend electric purple t-shirts.
